Wire we buy / Medium voltage
Medium-voltage cable buyers in Virginia
From 5 kV to 35 kV the cable is a system component, not a reel of wire. Construction, shielding, terminations and test history all enter the review before footage does.

Medium-voltage cable distributes power at 5 kV, 8 kV, 15 kV, 25 kV and 35 kV in Virginia plants, campuses, data centres, utilities and institutional facilities. Surplus appears after a substation change, a feeder reroute, a cancelled expansion or a utility standards update, and it is usually a small number of large, heavy reels.
Constructions reviewed
- 15 kV and 25 kV XLPE and EPR insulated cable with copper tape shield or concentric neutral.
- 5 kV and 8 kV cable for industrial distribution and large drives.
- 35 kV feeder cable where documentation exists.
- Single and three-conductor constructions, including aerial and underground rated jackets.
- Riser and submarine-rated constructions only with the print and records to support them.
Documentation carries the review
For medium voltage, the useful submission includes the reel tag, the full jacket print, the conductor size and strand, the insulation thickness if printed, the shield type, the voltage class, and any factory test report. Where cable has been in service or stored for years, a recent insulation resistance or very low frequency test result is far more persuasive than a description of the reel.
Not every reel should be reused
Cable that has been pulled, bent below its minimum radius, exposed to UV beyond its rating, or stored with water ingress may be better recovered than reused. That is a technical judgement, and it is made from photographs and records — not from a claim. It is entirely normal for a medium-voltage lot to be reviewed in two parts: reels that can serve again, and reels that cannot.
Handling is part of the deal. A 15 kV reel can weigh several tonnes. Tell us what equipment exists on site before anyone discusses logistics: crane, roll-off, loading dock, or a forklift with a real capacity rating.
Submitting
One line per reel or matched set: voltage class, conductor size, insulation and shield, footage, tag status, storage history and test records if any. Add the Virginia city or ZIP and the loading capability. Do not cut medium-voltage cable to prove a construction — the print and the tag are enough.

Questions sellers ask
Questions about this material
Do you review cable that has already been in service?
Yes. Removed-from-service medium-voltage cable is reviewed with its history: how long it ran, why it was removed, how it was stored afterwards, and any test results. Reuse depends on that evidence.
What voltage classes are in scope?
5 kV through 35 kV is the working range, with higher classes reviewed when documentation supports them. Below 5 kV the material is typically treated as standard power cable.
Can you handle the removal and loading?
Freight, loading and pickup are agreed per transaction in writing. The review starts with what the site can physically do, which is why loading access is one of the first questions.

Describe the lot as it actually sits. Photos of the reel tag and jacket print do more than any description, and mixed or unidentified cable can still be submitted for review.
