VFD and TC cable buyers in Virginia

Variable-frequency drive cable is specified for the noise it does not emit, so a reel is only useful if the shield, the grounds and the conductor count are what the next drive needs.

VFD cable runs between a drive and a motor, and its construction — foil or braid shield, symmetric grounds, XLPE insulation, heavy jacket — is what makes it different from ordinary power cable. TC cable covers tray-rated control and power circuits. Both appear in Virginia plants and data centres as leftover reels after a drive replacement or a cancelled line upgrade.

What the review needs for VFD cable

  • Conductor count and size, such as 3 conductors plus 3 symmetric grounds, #8 or #6.
  • Shield construction: foil, braid, or both, with or without a drain wire.
  • Voltage rating, typically 1 kV for drive cable, and the temperature rating.
  • Jacket type and whether it is TC-ER rated for exposed runs.
  • Footage per reel and whether the reel is still banded.

Shield integrity is the whole point

A VFD cable whose shield has been cut back badly at the end, or kinked hard enough to break the braid, loses the property it was bought for. Photograph the cut end closely enough to see the foil wrap, the braid and the ground conductors. If the reel has been stored with the end lying on a wet floor, say so — moisture in the shield is a real issue for reuse.

TC cable in the same lot

Plants often hold VFD cable and TC cable in the same rack, and they get submitted together. Keep them separate in the description: TC has its own print, its own voltage rating and often more conductors at smaller sizes. A combined submission is fine as long as each family is listed with its own sizes, counts and footage.

Matched sets matter

When a drive installation is cancelled, the cable, the lugs and the terminations were bought together and the reels are usually identical. Say if the reels are a matched set for one drive family — it helps the review understand why the quantities are unusual, such as six reels of the same 3-plus-3 configuration.

Questions sellers ask

Questions about this material

How is VFD cable different from ordinary shielded cable?

VFD cable combines XLPE insulation, a foil or braid shield and symmetric ground conductors in one assembly, designed for drive output waveforms. A generic shielded control cable is reviewed as a different product.

Do you accept VFD cable with a cut shield?

It can be submitted with the damage documented. A reel whose shield has been cut back at one end is usually still reviewable if enough length remains; a reel with a damaged shield along its length is not.

Can TC and VFD cable be submitted as one lot?

Yes, with each family listed separately by size, conductor count and footage. Mixing them into one line makes the review slower and less precise.

Describe the lot as it actually sits. Photos of the reel tag and jacket print do more than any description, and mixed or unidentified cable can still be submitted for review.
