Tray cable buyers in Virginia

Tray cable is bought in long runs for plants that then change scope. A tagged reel of TC-ER with most of its length intact is one of the more useful lots a Virginia industrial seller can have.

Tray cable carries power and control in open cable trays, and in Virginia it shows up in food processing, paper, chemical, data centre and manufacturing work. We review TC, TC-ER and related tray-rated constructions in copper and aluminum, with or without overall shields and grounds.

What identifies tray cable

  • Jacket print reading TC or TC-ER, plus the conductor count and size.
  • Voltage rating, usually 600 V, sometimes 1 kV or 2 kV.
  • Ground conductor presence, drain wire and shield type where applicable.
  • Sunlight resistance and direct-burial markings on ER constructions.
  • Temperature rating and any exposed-run or crush-resistance listing.

The ER suffix is worth money

TC-ER carries an exposed-run rating that lets it leave the tray for a distance without conduit, which is why plants specify it and why leftover reels get reused. Plain TC without the ER rating serves a narrower purpose. If the reel is unopened and the print is legible, say so explicitly in the submission; it is the first thing the review will look for.

Long reels, short remainders

Tray cable comes on 1,000 ft, 2,500 ft and 5,000 ft reels, and industrial sellers usually have a mixture: a couple of sealed reels, several with a few hundred feet left, and one that has been cut for every junction on the line. Submit them as separate groups. A partial reel with 200 ft left is still usable for a short run, but it must be counted as a partial, not averaged into the sealed reels.

  • Photograph the reel tag, the jacket print and the cut end.
  • Record conductor count, size, ground and shield.
  • Separate sealed reels from measured partials.
  • Describe how the reels are stored and how they load.

Industrial context helps

Tell us which plant or line the cable came from and why it is surplus — a line change, a cancelled expansion, a spare-stock purge. It does not change the physical material, but it explains why a matched set of reels exists, and matched sets are easier to place than orphaned lengths.

Questions sellers ask

Questions about this material

Do you buy tray cable with a damaged outer jacket?

It can be submitted. Photograph the damage and note how many feet are affected. Tray cable with a compromised jacket over a long section is usually reviewed as recoverable material rather than as reusable stock.

Is shielded tray cable accepted?

Yes, where the shield type and drain arrangement are documented. Shielded and unshielded constructions are counted separately in a lot.

What footage per reel is typical?

Tray cable is commonly supplied in 1,000, 2,500 and 5,000 ft reels. The reel size and the amount wound on it are the practical guide for partials.

Describe the lot as it actually sits. Photos of the reel tag and jacket print do more than any description, and mixed or unidentified cable can still be submitted for review.
