Wire we buy / SER and SEU
SER and SEU cable buyers in Virginia
Service entrance cable is bought in short runs and long reels, and the surplus usually sits in a van or on a shelf until someone counts it. Size and ground configuration decide what it can still be used for.

SER and SEU feed panels, subpanels and services, and they are among the most common leftovers on a Virginia residential and light commercial job. We review copper and aluminum versions in sealed reels, opened reels and short cut lengths, as part of a larger surplus lot.
SER versus SEU in one paragraph
SER carries separate insulated neutral and grounding conductors in a flat or round assembly and is used for panel feeders and subpanels. SEU combines the neutral and ground function in a bare conductor wrapped with the others and is used for the service drop side. The print on the jacket states which one you have, the conductor sizes, and whether the assembly is rated for wet locations.
Common sizes and why they sell
- Aluminum 2-2-2-4 and 4-4-4-6 SER for subpanels and outbuildings.
- Aluminum 2-2-4-6 and 1/0-1/0-1/0-2 for heavier feeders.
- Copper 6-6-6-6 and 4-4-4-6 for smaller feeders and equipment connections.
- SEU in 2-2-2 and 4-4-4 for service replacements.
Short lengths are still worth listing
A 40 ft length of 2-2-2-4 SER is not a reel, but in a lot with thirty other lengths it adds up. Group short lengths by size and note the count and approximate range. Do not coil them together without labels if you can avoid it — a pallet of unlabelled SER offcuts is reviewed as unidentified.
What to send
Per size: conductor configuration, metal, footage per reel or length, and whether the jacket is intact. Include the Virginia city or ZIP and whether the material is indoors or in a connex. Photographs of the jacket print and one representative reel are usually enough.

Questions sellers ask
Questions about this material
Do you buy SER cable in short cut lengths?
Yes, as part of a lot. Group the lengths by size, count them and give an approximate range. A single 15 ft piece is not worth a dedicated review, but thirty pieces of the same size are.
Is aluminum SER reviewed differently from copper?
The review looks at the same things — size, configuration, footage and condition — but aluminum and copper are counted separately and priced differently.
Can SER with a damaged outer jacket be submitted?
It can, with the damage documented and the affected length noted. Damaged sections are usually excluded from the usable length.

Describe the lot as it actually sits. Photos of the reel tag and jacket print do more than any description, and mixed or unidentified cable can still be submitted for review.
