Surplus electrical wire buyers in Richmond and Central Virginia
Central Virginia sits where manufacturing, distribution and state government meet, and that mix produces a very particular kind of wire surplus: plant spares, branch overstock and contractor overage in the same city.

Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, Petersburg, Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Ashland and the surrounding counties hold a broad industrial base: food and beverage processing, paper and packaging, chemicals, distribution centres and a large state and healthcare construction programme.
Material typical of Central Virginia
- Plant MRO surplus from facilities along the James River corridor and in Chesterfield: tray, control and VFD cable.
- Distribution centre overstock around Petersburg, Ashland and the I-95 corridor.
- Contractor reels from school, hospital and campus work in the city and Henrico.
- Paper mill and packaging plant decommissioning material, released through a property process.
The I-95 and I-64 advantage
Central Virginia is unusually good for moving heavy material: two interstates cross here, the Port of Richmond handles barge traffic, and most industrial parks were built with trailer access in mind. A lot here can usually be loaded without the access gymnastics a Northern Virginia job requires, which makes even moderately sized reels practical to review.
What we see most often
Two categories dominate. First, the plant store: a shelf of control and tray cable that was bought for a line that has been rebuilt twice since. Second, the contractor's yard: fifteen reels of THHN and a pallet of SER that were over-bought on a job that finished ahead of schedule.
Petersburg and Hopewell are not the same market as Short Pump. Describe the actual location and the actual loading conditions. Routes, yard space and equipment differ within a fifteen minute drive.

Questions sellers ask
Questions about this material
Do you review wire from a paper mill or chemical plant?
Yes, where the material has been released by the plant and the construction is documented. Plant surplus is often the best-documented wire in the region.
Can a Richmond contractor sell a mixed van and shop lot?
Yes. Group the material into sealed reels, opened reels with known lengths and unknowns, then submit as one lot with photographs of representative tags.

Describe the lot as it actually sits. Photos of the reel tag and jacket print do more than any description, and mixed or unidentified cable can still be submitted for review.
