Electrical Wire Buyers WIRE // VIRGINIA

Wire we buy / MC and AC

MC and AC cable buyers in Virginia

Armored cable is sold by the coil, and a coil that has never been opened is easy to review. A coil that has been dragged through three floors of a job and cut six times is a different conversation.

Metal-clad and armored cable is standard in Virginia commercial work: MC for feeders and branch circuits, AC and HCF for healthcare and institutional jobs where a redundant grounding path is required. Surplus accumulates as unopened 250 ft and 500 ft coils, as partial coils with taped ends, and occasionally as full pallets from a cancelled fit-out.

Types reviewed

  • MC cable: interlocked aluminum or steel armor, 12/2 through large multi-conductor feeders, with or without a green grounding conductor.
  • MC-AP: armor providing an equipment grounding path, often used where a separate ground is omitted.
  • AC / BX: armored cable with a bonding strip, including 14/2 and 12/2 branch sizes.
  • HCF: hospital-grade cable with an isolated grounding conductor.
  • Fire alarm and control MC: twisted or shielded conductors inside armor, where the print identifies the application.

What the coil label has to tell us

Conductor count and size, armor material, whether a grounding conductor is included, the voltage rating, and the footage. Labels on MC are usually printed on a paper band under the wrap; if the band is gone, the armour print and the conductor insulation print inside the cut end are the fallback. Photograph the cut end square on — it shows conductor colours, ground presence and strand type at once.

Why partial coils are reviewed lower

An opened coil has a free end that can wick moisture into the armor, and the remaining length is rarely known. That does not make it unusable, but it changes the risk. If the coil came off a job and was stored indoors with the end taped, say so; if it sat in a connex for a year, say that instead.

Send

Coil or reel count, size and conductor count, footage per coil, whether the wrap is intact, and the Virginia city or ZIP. One photo per cable type is enough; one photo of a whole pallet is not, because the labels are unreadable at that distance.

Questions sellers ask

Questions about this material

Do you buy opened MC cable coils?

Opened coils are reviewed with the lot. Note the approximate remaining length and whether the armor end was taped. Large quantities of unknown-length opened coils are harder to place than sealed factory coils.

Is HCF hospital-grade cable handled differently?

It is reviewed as its own type because the isolated grounding conductor changes who can use it. Send the print and the coil label, and note if the lot came from a healthcare project.

What about MC feeder cable in large sizes?

Large multi-conductor MC feeder is reviewed like other feeder cable: size, conductor count, armor type, footage per reel and loading. Photograph the reel and the cut end.

Describe the lot as it actually sits. Photos of the reel tag and jacket print do more than any description, and mixed or unidentified cable can still be submitted for review.
