Wire we buy / Control cable
Control and instrumentation cable buyers in Virginia
Control cable is bought by conductor count and shield type, not by the pound. A 25-pair shielded reel with a legible print is a specific product; a box of unidentified multi-conductor is a question.

Control and instrumentation cable runs signals between panels, field devices, PLCs and instruments. Virginia plants, water authorities, data centres and universities all accumulate partial reels when a controls upgrade finishes or a vendor package changes.
Constructions reviewed
- Multi-conductor control cable, 2 through 37 conductors, #18 through #10.
- Shielded and unshielded instrumentation cable, individually or overall shielded.
- Thermocouple extension wire and RTD cable in factory packaging.
- Pair and triad constructions, including 300 V and 600 V ratings.
- Control cable with an overall jacket over twisted pairs, tray-rated where printed.
Count, gauge and shield — in that order
Those three facts identify most control cable. After that, the review wants the voltage rating, the temperature rating, whether the pairs are twisted, and whether the shield is foil, braid or both. A print reading 16 AWG 12 pair overall shield is worth more than a photograph of a grey reel.
Partial reels are the norm
Controls work consumes cable in runs of tens of feet, so most surplus reels are partials with several hundred feet left. That is expected. What the review cannot work with is a shelf of fifty unlabelled spools. If labels are gone, group by physical appearance — jacket colour, print, conductor count visible at the end — and photograph each group with a ruler or a hand for scale.
Do not cut cable to prove a count. A clean cut end is helpful, but cutting a sealed reel to count conductors changes what it is. Photograph the print and the tag first; only cut where the reel is already open.
Send
Group by construction, then list conductor count, gauge, shield and approximate footage per group. Add the city or ZIP and whether storage is climate controlled — instrumentation cable stored in a humid connex for years is reviewed with that in mind.

Questions sellers ask
Questions about this material
Can unlabelled control cable be reviewed?
Only as unidentified material. Visible conductor count and gauge at an open end, jacket colour and any partial print help. Acceptance is not promised where the construction cannot be established.
Do you buy thermocouple and RTD cable?
Yes, in factory packaging or on identified spools. Type, calibration and conductor count come from the print or the box label.
What if I only have a few hundred feet left on each reel?
Partial control reels are normal and are reviewed together as one lot. List each group with its approximate footage rather than averaging the whole shelf.

Describe the lot as it actually sits. Photos of the reel tag and jacket print do more than any description, and mixed or unidentified cable can still be submitted for review.
